Which Mallorca Hotel Is Right for You? My Guide to the Island’s Most Exceptional Stays

Mallorca has quietly become one of Europe's most exciting luxury hotel destinations.

Over the past few years we've seen iconic properties restored, major luxury brands arrive on the island, and a level of service and accommodation that now rivals some of the best resorts in the Mediterranean.

The challenge isn't finding a great hotel. It's choosing the right one.

As a luxury travel advisor, one of the questions I'm asked most often is: "Which is the best hotel in Mallorca?"

The truth is that there isn't one single answer. The best hotel for a honeymooning couple will be very different from the best choice for a family with young children, or for someone who wants authentic Mallorcan character rather than a traditional beach resort.

Here are the Mallorca hotels I find myself recommending most often. Yes, I know there are a couple of properties missing from my list, which you may have expected to see, but based on quality of rooms, client feedback and overall experience, these are my top picks.

Four Seasons Resort Mallorca at Formentor

Best for families and beach lovers

The arrival of Four Seasons has firmly established Formentor as one of the most desirable resorts in the Mediterranean.

Occupying a spectacular position on Mallorca's northern peninsula, the hotel combines a beautiful sandy beach, excellent family facilities and the polished service for which Four Seasons is known worldwide.

While it is undoubtedly one of the island's best options for families, couples shouldn't overlook it. The atmosphere is sophisticated and relaxed, and the setting is genuinely exceptional.

Choose Four Seasons Resort Mallorca at Formentor if:

  • You want a true luxury beach resort

  • You're travelling with children

  • You enjoy having multiple restaurants and facilities on site

Mandarin Oriental Punta Negra

Best for contemporary luxury

One of Mallorca's most anticipated hotel openings, Mandarin Oriental Punta Negra offers a different but equally luxurious experience from Four Seasons.

Located close to Palma, the hotel sits on its own peninsula surrounded by small coves and sea views. The style is contemporary, elegant and unmistakably Mandarin Oriental.

For couples seeking a sophisticated escape, this may well become Mallorca's most exciting new address. Families are welcome too and well catered for.

Choose Mandarin Oriental if:

  • You prefer contemporary design

  • You want to be close to Palma

  • Spa and wellness are important

  • You're looking for a stylish escape and want to be one of the first to experience what is set to become one of Mallorca’s most iconic properties.

La Residencia, Belmond

Best for culture and authentic Mallorca

For many people, this is Mallorca at its most romantic.

Located in the beautiful village of Deià, La Residencia feels entirely different from the island's beach resorts. Olive groves, mountain views, art, excellent food and a genuine connection to local culture create an atmosphere that is difficult to replicate elsewhere.

If your idea of Mallorca involves wandering through charming villages, enjoying long lunches and discovering the island's artistic heritage, this may be your perfect hotel.

Choose La Residencia if:

  • You love culture and history

  • You prefer mountains to beaches

  • You enjoy walking and exploring

  • You're looking for an authentic sense of place

Son Bunyola

Best for understated luxury

Sir Richard Branson's Son Bunyola occupies one of the most beautiful estates on the island. It comprises rooms, suites and villas with a 16th century finca at its heart.

Set amongst vineyards, mountains and the sea on Mallorca's northwest coast, it offers a more residential and intimate experience than many of the larger luxury resorts.

Guests who appreciate discretion, privacy and a slower pace of life often fall in love with Son Bunyola.

Choose Son Bunyola if:

  • You value privacy and space

  • You prefer understated luxury

  • You're a repeat visitor to Mallorca

  • You want to experience the island's natural beauty

Virtuoso Benefits : Resort Credit, Upgrade if available, Complimentary breakfast. Additional Preferred Partner offers often apply.

Ikos Porto Petro

Best for effortless family holidays

I'll admit that I was initially sceptical about luxury all-inclusive resorts.

Then I visited an Ikos property.

Ikos Porto Petro has raised the bar considerably. The food is excellent, the service is genuinely impressive and the overall experience is remarkably stress-free. The Deluxe Collection is the exclusive part of the property and elevates the experience even more. Ikos have raised the bar for all-inclusive, and this resort is well worth considering even if you wouldn’t usually consider staying at an all inclusive resort.

For families, particularly those with younger children, it offers exceptional value without compromising on quality.

Couples can also enjoy it thanks to adults-only areas and excellent dining, and it makes family holidays easy.

Choose Ikos if:

  • You want everything included

  • You're travelling with children

  • You value convenience

  • You want excellent overall value

So Which Hotel Would I Choose?

For a family beach holiday, I'd probably choose Four Seasons Mallorca.

For contemporary luxury, Mandarin Oriental Punta Negra is likely to be one of the island's most exciting addresses.

For authentic Mallorcan character, La Residencia remains a classic.

For privacy and tranquillity, I'd look at Son Bunyola.

And for families who want a genuinely luxurious all-inclusive experience, Ikos Porto Petro is exceptional.

One final point: every hotel featured here sits firmly at the luxury end of the market. Whilst rates vary considerably by season, these are some of Mallorca's most sought-after properties and are priced accordingly. Ikos Porto Petro is generally the most affordable of the hotels featured, while the others occupy the upper reaches of the island's luxury market. The good news is that each offers something genuinely special — the key is choosing the one that best matches the type of holiday you're looking for and your budget.

If you'd like advice on which hotel is right for you, I'd be delighted to help.
